Communication

The level of communication between the staff and the school families has a significant impact on the overall effectiveness of the parent/school partnership. We strive to keep our communication open and frequent.
  • Website. Upon logging in to this website, much more information is available to the St. John's community. This is a secure website facilitating communication between teachers, staff, parents and students. It includes school-wide events, announcements and information as well as classroom-specific events, announcements and assignments. Stay tuned for more about this exciting new site!

  • A School Newsletter is sent home weekly. The newsletter keeps you informed of activities taking place at school. The newsletter and other information is sent home on the last school day each week in a White Mailer. Return the White Mailer to school on the first day of the following week so it can be refilled.

  • Class Summary. At the end of each month (minimum), homeroom teachers (K-5) send home with students a summary of that class' activities. This summary can be in the form of a newsletter or letter to parents. Middle school teachers combine their summaries into one newsletter.

  • Change in Address or Phone Number. Please notify the school office whenever your address or phone number changes. Our records must be kept current and accurate. Phone and address information will be consolidated into a school phone directory unless families indicate they do not wish to release that information.

  • Parent Teacher Conferences. School-wide conferences between teachers and parents (and child where appropriate) are scheduled in the fall and spring. You may arrange for a private conference with a teacher at any time by making an appointment with that teacher.

  • Principal's Open Door Policy. If you have any concerns or comments about the school I would be more than happy to hear them from you. Please make an appointment by calling the School Office at 635-5860 so that we can discuss your concerns. We need to work together as a team in order to make Saint John the Evangelist a great school.

  • Classroom Visitation. You are welcome to visit classrooms at anytime throughout the school year. However, clear all visits with the classroom teacher. Visitors are NOT to go to any classroom or walk through the building without first signing in at the school office. If you want to observe a class, make advance arrangements with the principal and teacher. Please do not interrupt a teacher while they are teaching a class. If it is necessary to confer with a teacher, make an appointment.

  • Contact with Students. Written permission from a custodial parent is required for a child to leave school with a non-custodial parent.

  • School Phones. Do not call a teacher or student during school hours except in case of an emergency. Students are ONLY allowed to use school telephones with permission from a teacher or staff member. Students should arrange after-school activities with their parents and friends before leaving home in the morning.

Problems?
If you have complaints or concerns,
  1. Address them promptly and directly with the person involved.
  2. Talk to the teacher about the situation.
  3. If you have additional concerns or you feel you did not receive answers, go to the principal. Go directly to the principal if your questions pertain to something beyond the realm of the individual classroom teacher.
In addition, there is a Parent Feedback Form available to families to provide feedback, including positive comments on issues and things related to the school. Families are encouraged to use this form to keep open communications. Please see the Appendix of your student handbook or ask the office for a copy.
