Dress Code

The School Advisory Council has adopted a dress code for Saint John's Catholic School. The Principal or designee determines appropriateness under the St. John's Dress Code. The students' dress and appearance promotes the development of Christian values, cleanliness, health, and safety. It also reflects good judgment, poise, increased maturity, and helps to provide a healthy, business-like, and purposeful atmosphere for study. Dress code will be consistently enforced at the school.

For all Students:

  • Students must be well-groomed at all times which includes wearing shirts tucked in. In addition clothes must not be tattered, frayed or show severe signs of wear and tear.
  • Girls may wear one single post or stud earring per ear.
  • Boys may not wear earrings.
  • Hats or sunglasses may not be worn inside the school buildings.
  • Student's hair must be a natural hair color.
  • Hair accessories should be color-coordinated with the uniform (red, navy, white, brown, black).
  • All sweatshirts and fleece outerwear must have the Saint John's Logo.
  • White is the only acceptable color tee shirt to be worn under uniform shirts.
It is unacceptable to come to school with:
  • Tattered, frayed, ripped or soiled clothing
  • Clothes that are too small for the student - skin tight clothes or pants too short
  • Tattoos or artificial skin markings
  • Excessive make-up
  • Multiple necklaces
  • Ankle bracelets
  • Artificial nails
  • Colored nail polish
  • Artificial hair braids/hair pieces
Students will be told when their clothing or appearance is unacceptable. Parents are notified if the problem persists. It is important for both the students and their parents to observe the dress code. The dress code is reviewed annually by the School Advisory Council (SAC).

Additional Requirements:

Pants: Boys and Girls pants must be straight-legged with the slit style pocket. Corduroy pants, jeans, sweatpants, cargo pants, stretch pants, and baggy, flare or bell-bottom pants are not acceptable.

Belts: Belts (for pants and shorts) are required in 6 - 8. Belts must be plain black, brown. Buckle must also be plain without decoration. Belts are optional in K - 5.

Shorts: Boys and Girls walking shorts must be between the knee and fingertip length. Shorts are not permitted Dec 1 thru Spring Break. Jean, sweatpants, cargo pant, and stretch shorts are not acceptable.

Shirts: Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

Scouts: Boys and girls may wear Scout or Campfire uniforms on their regularly scheduled meeting days.

Shoes: Children are allowed to wear dress or tennis shoes with their uniform. SOLES MUST BE NON-SCUFFING. Shoes with laces must be tied. Thongs, sandals, or shoes without a back support or heels are not acceptable. Sandals with a back heel support are allowed with socks.

Casual/Dress Up Days: Casual days are announced. Students may wear blue jeans with a uniform shirt.

Gym Uniform: Includes blue shorts red t-shirt with school logo and a blue sweat suit. This uniform must be worn on days when elementary students are scheduled for PE. Middle school students are required to change in and out of their PE clothes during their PE class. Elementary students may remain in their PE clothes all day on their scheduled day to attend PE.

Makeup: Permitted only in 6-8th grade. Light foundation, clear lip-gloss. Clear nail polish.
