Religion

Religious Education is the primary reason for the existence of St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. For this reason, our students participate in a religious education program based upon the recommendations of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Silver - Burdett religion series, an approved and recommended religion textbook in the Archdioceses of Denver, is used at St. John's. This series is in complete accordance with the two documents published by the American Bishops:
  • To Teach As Jesus Did, The Basics Teacher for Catholic Religious Education
  • The Catechism of the Catholic Church
The key concepts emphasized in this program are threefold:
Authentic DOCTRINE
Building CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
Christian SERVICE

Religion in the Classrooms:

  • All students have religion class four days a week. Parents are encouraged to review their child's religion book with them.
  • Students in grades K - 8 attend weekly school Mass*.
  • Students in second grade receive their First Holy Communion and Reconciliation.
  • Students in grades 3 - 8 go to Confession at least twice during the school year.
  • Eighth grade students attend two off-campus religious retreats.
  • Eighth grade students will recieve the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Prayer services are conducted at various times during the school year.
* Students attend a weekly 8:30 A.M. Mass. When Holy Days of Obligation occur on a school day, students attend the Holy Day Mass at 8:30 A.M. and also attend the Friday Mass. If there is no school on Friday, students will attend Mass on the last school day of the week. Parents and parishioners are always welcome to celebrate Mass with the students.
